This week in Phonics we have revised the sounds ‘ear – hear with your ear’, ‘ure – sure its pure’, ‘or – shut the door’, ‘oo – look at the book’. We have continued to practice our letter names and letter sounds – especially our letter sounds.
In Maths this week we have been learning how to subtract/minus/take away. We have learnt that we can count back on a number line or use our fingers to help us. We have also been creating our own subtraction stories such as; Mrs Staiano has 5 pears. Mrs Wallis eats 2 pears. How many pears are left?
The book we have been using this week within our English lessons has been ‘Polar Bear, Polar Bear – What Do you hear?’ by Bill Martin Jr with beautiful illustrations by Eric Carle. We have read this story each day and have got to know it off by heart. The book is wonderfully written and has some interesting verbs such as ‘fluting’ and ‘braying’ – both new words to us. Whilst reading the story, we have begun to learn about verbs and what they are.
During our active learning sessions we have been continuing to choose the different resources within the classroom and outside to make and create lots of different things. From a model Toys R Us, through to Animal Soup in the sand pit.
Reminder – Please do send in any spare/old wellington boots for your child to use when learning outside, and please ensure that PE kits remain in school for the entire week.
